What Cathodic Protection Testing Is — And Why TCEQ Requires It
Underground steel tanks and piping corrode when exposed to soil and moisture. Cathodic protection (CP) uses controlled electron flow to counteract that corrosion, and TCEQ requires regulated underground storage tank (UST) systems to have CP tested on a set schedule to confirm it's actually working. A CP survey measures structure-to-soil potential readings to verify the system is providing adequate protection — not just installed, but functioning.
